What do we believe?
Well, to put it simply, we believe the Bible, but here are some things that “stand out”
The Bible:
Our church holds that the Bible is God’s Word and is the final authority.
It is our church’s practice to use and only endorse the King James Version for English speaking people. We hold this position due to three reasons. (1.) It is based off a superior Greek and Hebrew text. Modern versions are not based off the texts that were handed down through the churches. (2.) It is based off superior scholarship. The men who translated the KJV cannot be rivaled in their ability to render in English the original languages. (3.) It is a product off superior methods. It is translated “word for word” as opposed to “thought for thought”. It is our belief that God intended us to have a “every word” Bible and has preserved it for us in the King James Version.
Church Independence:
Our church is an “Independent” church. This means that we do not have a central office that hands down “edicts”.
The scripture teaches us that Christ is the head of the church (Colossians 1:18). We could not in good conscience put another “head” over His church.
In business we are governed by “congregational rule” with each member getting an equal vote.
In doctrine and church practice the Scripture governs us.
Baptist:
Our church holds to the Bible doctrines that historically have been known as “Baptist doctrines”. While we do not exalt a “tag” above God’s Word, we are not ashamed to be associated with the people known throughout history as “Baptists”.
Below is an acrostic to help you know “Baptist principles”:
B - The Bible is our final authority. (2 Timothy 3:16)
A – The autonomy (self government) of the church. (Colossians 1:18)
P – The Priesthood of every believer. (Every Christian has direct access to God) (1 Timothy 2:5)
T – Two ordinances (Lord’ Supper and Baptism). These are not “sacraments”; they do not convey saving grace. They are symbols. (1 Corinthians 11:23-24; Romans 6:1-6)
I – Individual soul liberty. You alone will give account for your life to God. (Romans 14:12)
S – Saved and Baptized church membership only. (1 Peter 1:18-25; Acts 2:41)
T – Two offices of leadership in the church: Pastor and Deacon. (Acts 20:17-28; 1Peter 5:1-5)
Worship and preaching:
Our church believes that worship is “for God” and should be pleasing “to God.” Bible worship is when we worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Worship is a heart response to the truths of God’s Word. To this end our church focuses on hearing God’s Word preached and seeking to respond to God’s Word with sincere hearts. This is what the “Altar call” or “Invitation” is about. It is a time for the church to respond in obedience to God.
World Evangelism:
Our pastor has led us to take the command of Mark 16:15 as a personal challenge, it says
“Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Our church endeavors to keep this last command of our Savior as our first priority. Through “giving and going” we are seeking the lost as our Savior did when He was here.
Dear Friend,
I trust that this has helped you to understand a little of what we believe at LBC. If you should have any questions I invite you to visit with us some Sunday. God bless!
